Father's DayIt's still weird being called "daddy." I did get a couple of presents out of it, though. The new Gravediggaz CD, the Nappy Roots CD, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samarai DVD, and a couple of Tolkien books. I scored. The Gravediggaz album, Nightmare in A-Minor is a pretty solid album. I was a wee disapointed that the RZA didn't apear it. I love the way he flows with that drawling voice of his. Despite his absence, the album still kicks. I was under the mistaken idea that the RZA's vast production talent was the reason I liked the 'Diggaz, but they opperate extremely competently witout him. Now, a moment of silence please for the Grym Reaper who recently died of colon cancer. Two of the best songs center on his fight with cancer. The lyrics are so explicit and emotionally available that I squirm when I hear them. It aso made me ponder my own mortality. Seriously, I'm a walking timebomb. Barring any fatal accidents, the cause of my death and the approximate time of my death is programed into my DNA. Will it be cancer? Stroke? Liver failure? Yeah, it's a deep album, but The Pick, the Sickle, and the Shovel is still the best of their catalog. Here's a decent fan site. The Nappy Roots, Watermellon, Chicken, and Gritz, is another solid album. SSDiabolique said it best when she described them as OutKast beats with Jurassic-5 harmonies. Nappy isn't quite as good as 'Kast, but it's nice to have something to tie me over untill the release of the next OutKast album. Nothing here as cerebral as the G-diggaz, just fun music. I love Ghost Dog... hey the RZA produced an awesome soundtrack of hypnotic grooves for this movie. Some day I'll do a big-ass disertation on this movie. Until next time. |
