In-a-rut-itisNot me, SSDiabolique. Lately, SSDiabolique has been inadvertently leaving clues, which I have been picking up and a processing through the sophisticated forensic analyzer that is my mind. Let me divulge these clues to you, the reader, and let us decipher them together. Clue #1: Frequent mentions of vacation, not standard hey-let’s-drive-to-Yellowstone vacations but hey-lets-blow-thousands-of-dollars-and-spend-two-relaxing-weeks-in-Jamaica vacations. Clue #2: She has asked me about the possibility of moving back to her native Atlanta. Clue #3: Complaints about Super Freak(LC) draining all of her energy and time. Clue #4: Resistance to doing anything productive. Clue #5: Bad dreams about us breaking up. Now, combine these clues with our recent bout with illness (I still double over from coughing fits once or twice a day), which has left us homebound. Let us examine the symptoms and diagnose the problem. I agree, all signs point to In-a-rut-itis. I detected this malady yesterday at work, after a phone conversation with SSDiabolique. So, last night we had a big ol’ talk about life and whatnot. To me, the conversation was left incomplete, no course of action, no conclusion, no choir of angels singing Whitesnake’s Here I Go Again over those kick-ass 80s’ guitar licks. I hate generalized stereotyping psychobabble, but maybe there is substance behind the idea that men and women think differently. How many times have you heard statements generalizing all men as “logic-driven problem solvers” and all women as “intuitive emotional thinkers”? To me our conversation was incomplete because it had no conclusion or solution. To SSDiabolique the conversation wasn’t about solving a problem, it was about the therapeutic release of emotions. It's really tough to suppress that tinkering Neanderthal inside my head that wants to simplistically reduce everything to cause and effect or problem and solution. Furthermore, I rarely if ever suffer from In-a-rut-itis. Hell, I can eat the same chicken breast & cheese lunch for two month straight without flinching. Despite my uncertainty and inexperience with this malady, I still did a good job of listening and empathizing. This is a rare moment, indeed.Anyway… I’m going to buy SSDiabolique a betta. Yeah you know, those boring fishes that seam to hover in the middle of their bowl, never swimming to and fro just sitting there in the aquatic equivalent of the lotus position. It’s been a while since I’ve surprised her with something like this, mostly because I’ve been a little selfish the last two weeks with my birthday and all. Usually I try to do one surprise a week…er, one free surprise a week, like draw her a bath and light some candles, or leave her a note on the bathroom mirror (REDRUM :), or bake her favorite blueberry muffins on a Saturday morning, or whatever. Come to think of it, last week when she was sick I did pick up a movie for her that she was fiendin’ to see, Session 9. Brrrr! That is one freaky-creepy movie. I feel better now; I haven’t been slacking. “Hey if this Zen-like fish is suppose to be a surprise why are you blogging about it?” you may ask. “Because SSDiabolique doesn’t dig the blog scene like us addicts,” I may respond. Besides if she stumbles upon this post it’ll be just as surprising. Om. |
