Coffee at Stella’s and Annual Family Picnic
Standard fun time was had by all at Stella’s on Sunday. Me, Anti-Shenry, and SSDiabolique sat around and yacked about whatever flitted across the surface of our conscious. Feral Kitty(LC) provided occasional comic distractions. I think I understand why three-year olds ask “WHY?” all the time. They have no internal monologue. This is just a theory, but a lot of time Feral Kitty asks “why?” when she already knows the answer. I’ve always figured she was inquiring because I am the all-wise, all-knowing, all-funky daddy-oh! If, however, I pause long enough to set my ego aside, perhaps her question is self-directed and not meant for external response. Her little brain is chugging away with synapses firing all over the place when she verbalizes “why?” Overly simplistic example:

Feral Kitty: I’m thirsty.

Me: Well, let’s get you some water.

Feral Kitty: Why?

Me: Um, I dunno. Why are we gonna get you water?

Feral Kitty: Because I’m thirsty!

Coffee Crew dissolved at approximately 2:00PM when we parted paths with the Anti-Shenry and headed to the annual Smaldone Family Picnic. I got to see the usual family cast of characters like my cousins, aunts, and uncles. I also got to see the extended family but couldn’t remember a single name, just like last year and the year before that and so on. There are even one or two groups of people that I don’t remember EVER talking to, but when the crowd numbers well over a hundred I don’t expect much from myself. Coming from a Catholic Italian family I do know that 90% of the women in attendance were named “Mary” so that makes things easier. At these functions I look around and know exactly what I’ll look like in 30 years. Some of the great-uncles are bigger or smaller with more or less hair than the next one, but they all look about the same.

I took some good photos over the weekend so I’ll be updating the Cast and Crew page soon.

Old man take look at my life, I’m a lot like you…
