Last night we all sat down for a family movie night to be filled with visions of Harry Potter, when it was interrupted by the Mormon Missionaries. What is up with them? Do they have an apartment 301 movie radar? This is yet another occurrence in a string of movie interruptions by the missionaries. Yaargh! Frustrating. I think Wednesday is supposed to be their day off. Wtf? Well, one of the missionaries is being transferred further west. Too bad it’s the tolerable one. A new missionary will take his place today, I guess. I tried a new technique, “Hey, we just started a movie care to join us?” Once they found out it was Harry Potter they recoiled like abused puppies. I don’t wanna get riled up on the whole anti-Christian/pro-Witchcraft debate that waged on throughout its theatrical run, BUT PUH-LEEZE! Where was I… oh, yeah… The missionaries started to panic but I used my silver tongue to coax them into watching the ever-so Satanic Harry Potter. :-P The missionaries left when the clock hit 9:30PM, and we rejoiced. I guess 9:30PM is when the devil starts trolling for souls. The whole experience was better than usual, probably because we were all entranced by the demonic influence of the maleficent Harry Potter and therefore could not tear ourselves away from the “forbidden apple” to speak to each other. …but anyway… Harry Potter was quite mediocre for all the hype it received, it was however an interesting academic contrast to Clash of the Titans. Maggie Smith was Professor Minerva McGonagall in HP and was Thetis in CotT. What a coincidental twist. It’s also fun to compare special effects. Both movies incorporated a shadow morphing scene, where a character changes shape but the audience only sees the shadow change forms. The shadow morphing in CotT was just as good as the one in HP. CotT includes an interview with the special effects director who explains that creating the archetypical three-headed hound from Greek mythology was too difficult so he settled for a two-headed hound. Twenty years later what do we find in HP? A beautifully digitized three-headed dog. Ah, we’ve come so far. Bow down before the one you serve, you’re going to get what you deserve… |
