Standard Sunday Stuff
Yesterday I woke up sneezing my tapioca brains out. I blame it on the new fires blazing in Steamboat. Had breakfast at Denny’s with paw and I decided I could (should?) compile a multi-page list of “things not to do” based solely upon my observations of benz-oh’s wedding. Here’s one that I better jot down now because it’s important: The material things like money, food, gown, etc don’t make a wedding, the people make the wedding. Here’s the background to this light bulb of an idea… The wedding is restricted to 70(+/-) people. That’s small when you consider the cast of family and friends that have made benz-oh’s and his bride2B’s life possible. It kinda irks me when I dwell on the people benz-oh had to leave of the list strictly so that bride2B can brag about having her wedding reception at Denver’s swanky Brown Palace. From what bride2B’s step-dad said Saturday night, they’ve dropped twenty grand on this wedding! What the fuck is wrong with this picture? Twenty grand for 70 people! That’s $285.71 per attendee. I don’t think that includes the rehearsal dinner or the cheddar that’s been dropped on tuxes and dresses by us insignificant wedding party members. This is just disgusting. I’ve rambled too much about this irritation and it’s just winding me up. In summary, a cheap wedding with an abundance of loved ones is infinitely richer than an posh wedding with a restricted guest list and a lot of trampled feelings.

Breakfast was followed by a very limited Coffee Crew, just me, SSDiabolique, and Monkey Goat(LC). Our leisurely coffee set the tone for the rest of Sunday. It used to be, not so long ago, that SSDiabolique was baffled by the sit-and-chill of a good café outing. Similarly, she preferred not to hang out at a restaurant and let a good meal sink in; once the setting had outlived its purpose and usefulness then it was time to move on. Now she seams to like it a little more. After coffee we did a little back-to-school shopping, only this is Monkey Goat’s first year in school so “back-to-school” is a tad misleading. We’re trying to get her enrolled in the Denver Public School’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. ECE is for pre-kindergarten kids and is therefore run a little differently. The main difference is we have to go in for an interview. Yes they screen the applicants, so tomorrow the three of go in and do a little song and dance routine for the teacher. Oh, that reminds me that Monkey Goat has an appointment for immunization tomorrow also. Shots suck.

After a draining shopping session we hit McDonalds. Woo-hoo! My guilty pleasure that I continually blame Monkey Goat for. (“…but, honey, Monkey Goat REALLY wants to go to McDonalds.”) We did indeed recharge our energy through additional sit-and-chill while Monkey Goat did her play thing. The rest of the evening I read the entire Sunday paper and knocked out a couple of chapters in Atlas Shrugged. I was really feeling the groove until my saint of a mother called and asked me to pick up jue and eber for Friday’s rehearsal. That phone call got me thinking about the stupid wedding that I had successfully pushed to the back of my tapioca brain.

That’s about the time the Mormon Missionaries decided to pay a visit. Good timing on their part because they forced me to cram all thoughts of the wedding to the bowels of my anus. The new guy, Elder Hall, is surprisingly pensive and intelligent. So there goes my theory that all missionaries are social re-knobs seeking escape from the abuse they take as geeks. I must amend the theory to “most missionaries” not “all missionaries.” He continues the trend of young kids who were never devoted to the religion until long into their mission (touched upon here). Anyway, last night the missionaries were a welcome distraction, so I thanked them by letting Elder Hall borrow my electric guitar. He was strumming it as we talked and I was taken by the joy he exuded… that, and I haven’t played the stupid thing in years.

Anyway, I go home in 5 minutes… Peace out!
