Another Trip

You know something just sunk into my negative-space mind – fighting past my American Crew pomade, pushing through the pores and hair follicles in my scalp, parting the tangled network of capillaries, drilling past my NFL regulation skull, nestling in the soft pink cotton candy of my mind. I’ve gotta go to Durango next week for work! This concept has been dancing on my mind like spring fairies on a dew soaked field, and now this concept has decided to do its own particular Michael Flatley impersonation. I’m going to Durango! When did this happen? I’ve only been back from Atlanta for a week; I’m not ready for this. Let me catch my breath people!
I remember walking around in a daze all Monday at work, sitting in cubicles that weren’t mine and eating other people’s lunches out of the communal fridge. I was just back from vacation and everything was strange and unfamiliar. Then MK mentioned something about hotel reservations in Durango and how we needed to get a government vehicle for the 8-hour road trip this upcoming Monday. I was slightly perturbed at the idea. I was caught off guard. Okay, I’m going to Durango. I’ve done this four or five times in the last two years here at CDOT. I’m okay. When I told SSDiabolique, she had the same “that’s annoying” attitude that I had.
Now after three full days back at work, I’m thinking straight and I’ve realized this sucks pig polyps straight outta the un-sedated swine’s ass. I started think about the ol’ Durango drill: SSDiabolique, Ridge Wrecker(LC), and I pack up and head out to Durango. Oh shit! Ridge Wrecker has school and we just pulled her out for a week to go to Atlanta. Can we afford to pull her out for another week? Crap! I can’t even start a new weightlifting regimen with this unforeseen trip that just blindsided me.
Before I left for vacation I remember MK mentioning something about a new guy out in Durango who required training. So I knew a business trip was lingering out in the spectral future, but the speed at which this one has been planned it unprecedented. MK set up the schedule and accommodations when I was off on vacation. See what happens when you leave people alone for to long? They run amok all willy-nilly.
I’m trying to be levelheaded about this. Hey this is part of my job description and I said “sure” when they asked my about occasional in-state travel during my interview. Shouldn't I have been consulted about a large weeklong trip such as this? Maybe MK feels like he did consult with me by mentioning it prior to vacation. All trips up until now have been like pseudo-vacation. You know: truncated work hours, lots of swimming with Ridge Wrecker, touristy things with the family, etc. Maybe I should just feel lucky that this is the first trip that is causing distress.
