This is NOT a Movie Review Blog
Watched a couple more movies,
Waking Life and
The Devil’s Backbone. You know what? Despite the recent trend, this is not a movie review blog. Okay? I figure there are people who actually want to put the time and effort into writing real reviews, so if you want a halfway useful review then use your freaking search engine. If you’re a mindless disciple of the
The Book of Shenry then rent both of these movies. You don’t necessarily have to rent them tonight, just eventually.
A couple of days ago I said that
Donnie Darko was a thinking man’s movie. Well, for
Waking Life you need at least a master’s degree in thinking movies. This animated movie tackles everything: The nature of god, the temperament of time, the uses of lucid dreaming, the reality of the collective unconscious, and just about every other philosophical topic. A professor of philosophy might find this movie juvenile (I refuse to use “sophomoric” because that’s exactly the word you expect me to use). Conversely, a person who proclaims philosophy to be mentally masturbatory may find this movie totally pointless. For those of us who identify ourselves as amateur philosophers this movie is astounding. So, when your in that particular complex mood that induces existential brooding then run out and rent
Waking Life.
For
The Devil’s Backbone wait until you feel like reading subtitles… unless your well versed in Spanish, then you can watch it whenever you want. This is not of the “horror” genre; it is of the “ghost story” genre. What’s the difference? Uh, I dunno. Just go rent it.
Like I said: this is not a movie review blog, so don’t lynch me for my lack of detail, scrutiny, or technical presentation.
