Stella’s Coffee and FootballSunday’s coffee at Stella’s was short and intimate with just me, SSDiabolique, and El-Sea sipping our beverages out on the front deck. The Denver whether warmed to the point where I was itchy hot sitting outside. The Anti-Shenry called 30-minutes prior to coffee and bowed out because he had to work. That particular phone call may go in the record books as one of those life-altering self-realization moments. As I hung up the phone I recognized that I’m one of those straight-to-point kinda guys. For some reason I always picture myself beating around the bush biding my time with small talk until the appropriate moment arrives to bring up “business.” As soon as Anti-Shen and I were over the mandatory salutations I bluntly asked if he was headed to work or Stella’s. I reminisced about other work interactions and personal relations when the epiphany materialized: I have a cut-the-bullshit attitude, albeit a polite one. In retrospect, my self-image of a pussyfooter is derived from my personality 10 years ago. I was in that whole unsteady teenage phase. Eventually, I just got sick of the verbal ballet required to lead someone to a point in the conversation where I could bust out the business. It’s crazy to me how my self-image was so incredibly outdated. I wonder what other facets of my individual I’m wrong about. I guess I’m in serious need of a self-image upgrade or patch or something. After an hour of sipping java, we wandered down to my mom’s for lunch and Bronco-mania. I haven’t watched a football game with my mom since last year’s playoffs. I enjoyed the bonding, but more so I enjoyed having someone to cheer with. Don’t tell SSDiabolique, but I think she’s a year away from getting sucked into the whole football thing. It’s easy to get enraptured when you have a consistently competitive team in which to emotionally invest yourself. Once she embraces the whole football experience, we’ll both be shouting at the television and trading end zone dances. Glitter, glisten, gloss, floss I catch a beat runnin’ like Randy Moss |
