Good morning my tiny audience

These little figurines sit under my monitor at work. It’s like I have a tiny 2-inch audience watching my every keystroke. There’s cute, yellow Pikachu who I usurped from my own child, despite her tears and sobs. Cinnamon-roll-head Princess Leia stares at me menacingly with a blaster cradled in her arms. Godzilla (1998 version) peaks around a tube of 5-year-old Godzilla lip balm. It baffles me why scaly, mean, and un-kissable Godzilla would pimp out his image to endorse something as un-lizard-like as lip balm. Then there are the vertebrae, which really aren’t action figures but they look cool anyway. I found the desiccated skeleton along the side of highway 550 and the only bones I could pry out of the ground without busting them were two connected vertebrae. I’m not sure what kind of animal the backbone came from, although it was larger than a domestic cat and smaller than a coyote. Next to the vertebrae is shirtless
Chino Loco struggling with two dumbbells. Then at the far right corner of my monitor stands my totem of wisdom, the Yoda PEZ dispenser. Interspersed amongst these figurines are three stocky semitransparent aliens beckoning me to indulge in more exciting activities. The one perched atop the overturned cobalt blue Smithsonian shot glass cradles a football. The one next to Leia is curling an overloaded barbell and the one next to Chino Loco is ready to rumble with his boxing gloves.
It’s comforting coming into work every morning to be greeted by my wee people. Their focus is solely on me as I whittle away the hours until quitting time. They watch me as I read, type, eat, sleep, and sip my coffee. Then I bid them adieu and leave my monitor on so that they can bask in its warm glow. I love these little dudes. Now if only I could train them to get the coffee brewing before I get into work.
