DairyI’m temporarily cutting dairy products out of my diet. This is an experiment. I’ve heard lactose can impede fat loss and I’ve heard that the general dairy-munching populous emits a slight cheesy odor. These same voices tell me that if I stop eating dairy I will be able to detect the odor. Well, I’m gonna find out if these voices I’m hearing are correct. This endeavor won’t be easy. I love me some tasty yogurt, frothy skim milk, chunky cottage cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs, spicy pepper jack cheese… I love it all. (Are eggs truly considered dairy?) Here’s the meal template:6:30AM: 1-cup Raisin Bran, 1-serv whey protein 8:30AM: 6-oz chicken 10:30AM: 6-oz chicken 12:30PM: 1.3-serv whey protein, 0.6-tsp flaxseed oil 2:30PM: 1.3-serv whey protein, 0.6-tsp flaxseed oil 5:30PM: 2-serv whey protein 7:30PM: 1-can tuna, 1-head broccoli 9:30PM: 1.3-serv whey protein, 0.6-tsp flaxseed oil 2000 kcal/day 34-grams fat, 105-grams carbohydrates, 325-grams protein I’ve also procured a lovely weight & body fat analyzer. Gart Sports had a killer deal going on these devices. I played with it over the weekend to fully understand any fluctuations in readings. I’m surprised by the precision of the scale… I’m not positive about the accuracy of the analysis, but the precision is solid. And, precision is all I need. Given a reliable and repeatable benchmark, I can track all body composition changes. This will enable me to quantify the effects of removing dairy from my diet. Sweet, huh? Maybe it’s only “sweet” to me. Back to precision… readings do vary between morning and night. Weight fluctuates by roughly 2-pounds and body fat percentage fluctuates by a full 1%. The instrument uses the convenient biological impedance method and hydration levels do affect the bf% analysis for this method. Anyway, I’m going to average morning and pre-bed results for an overall picture of my body composition. Here it is, my benchmark: July 13, 2003: 164-pounds @ 10.5% b.f. |
