idea 2
I’d like to write a book. Please realize that I’m all talk here and no action. The probability of me following through on this book is less than the probability of me spontaneously combusting. However, the probability of me discovering that some random blog-hopper has stolen my here-to-be-presented idea is absolute. You slag my idea and I’ll slag your dirty bunghole like it’s never been slagged before.

The genre, setting, plot, and characters are inconsequential at this point. They are secondary to my gimmick. I want to tell a story in first person style from the perspective of multiple characters. You know, the same story told by different people. Sure, it’s been done before. Can anybody say “Ryunosuke Akutagawa”? I can’t, I have no idea how to pronounce his name. He wrote the short story In a Grove which is published along with Akutagawa’s other kick-ass works in the book Rashomon and Other Stories. In A Grove is exactly the type of story I’m talking about.

I don’t look at this idea as if I’m stealing from a dead guy (who probably stole the idea from some other dead dude). I’m spinning off of his idea and improving upon it. The second part of the gimmick is the necessity of multiple authors. Each author writes a character. The stylistic variety between the writers will further enhance the different personalities, experiences, and viewpoints of the main characters.

The logistics seam nightmarish. How do you bring together five (or so) writers to pen the same story from different perspectives without getting bogged down by redundancies or disconnected by unique events? It’s not impossible, just difficult. I do believe that the results would be worth the hassle.

I’ve got a decent gimmick, now all I need is a plot, setting, characters, genre, and five (or so) other people. Yeah, right. …Yet another idea that will never make it past the theoretical stage.
