induced laborThe doc is going to induce labor on my sister, Jue, today. In fact, she is probably at the hospital right now with an i.v. jammed in the crook of her arm. Jue said they would start the process at 7:30AM, but that the birth wouldn’t take place until mid-afternoon/early-evening. I can’t imagine hanging out for half a day with an i.v. plunged deep into my veins. Ung. I’m feeling woozy. One might inquire as to the necessity of induced labor: Are there complications? No. Is she overdue? Yes, but only by one measly day. Is her doctor leaving on vacation next week? Yes. The doctor wants to induce labor because he is going to be on vacation next week and he prefers my sister not be a week and a half overdue. From this logic, one might conclude that the doctor’s vacation is more important than my sister and her unborn bastard child. …just saying. It’s kind of convenient knowing that the birth will be today; I’m prepared and everybody is primed for that phone call. I even have some duties as far as the childbirth goes. I am in charge of food: Foot-long Subway turkey and bacon sandwich with extra cheese, pickles, onions, lettuce, and mustard. I can do this. Jue even has a cool name picked out: Ava. Yeah, as in Ava Gardner. Not bad. I’m impressed with my sis and her boyfriend, although I was really pushing for more of an American Gladiator name like Ice or Lace. On the off chance (5%) it’s a boy… well, then I get to call him “Bastard”. Ava or Bastard, it’s a win-win situation. On a related note, I just got off the phone with my dad, who is headed down to Denver this very moment, and I plan on having a lovely lunch with him when he gets into town. |
