letters from home
Sherry was summoned for jury duty today, so I opted not to go to work. Ah, the novelty of having a Tuesday off.
I'm in charge of the rat today, so I took her to
Chuck's Do-Nuts for a little father-daughter bonding thang.
Chuck's is pretty sweet as far as doughnut shops go. Think auto mechanics garage with pastries instead of cars.
Chuck's specializes in wholesale, so the majority of their tiny facility is an open industrial kitchen. The seating area and customer counters have a haphazardous air of afterthought. The sign outside
Chuck's proudly claims “since 1948,” and I'm guessing not much has changed about the place in the last half century. Obviously, the John Elway poster is not original, but it still hearkens to a bygone era of Denver's history.
After a chocolate doughnut and couple cups of joe, Lori and I returned home for a little harmonica jam. She likes to play fast and loud; I like to play slow and soft. Go figure. Latter this morning, I'm planning a little tea party with her. Not one of those fake-ass plastic cups with invisible sugar farces, either. I'm talking about scalding hot Darjeeling tea, clay pot, breakable cups, and real fake lemon juice in one of those squeezable bottles.
Then there's that kindergarten place I have to take her to at 1PM... I think. I'm having fun being Mr. Mom. Somewhere, sometime, I want to put aside a couple hours so that I can study for that retarded Professional Engineer's Exam. In fact, the whole reason I'm in the office/ferret hole is to study. Apparently, the warm glow of the computer is too much for me to resist.
Oh well... time to hit the books.
