study habits
T-minus one month until the Professional Engineer's Exam. I've been studying 7 to 14 hours a week for the last month. Every time I crack open my study material I feel like I'm back in college. Only I'm not. Despite homework, studying, and pending tests, I am not sleeping 'til noon, I am not frolicking at spring break, and I am not conditioning cascading curls of grunge-worthy hair. Ah, those were the days. I have, however, noticed a subtle subconscious shift toward college day's tendencies. A regression, a devolution, a return towards habits and tastes I developed in that bygone era.

Things like oversleeping and showing up late for work. Screw it, I can skip my first class; I'll just get the notes from somebody.

I want to watch Melrose Place while noshing Cheetos and Milk Duds. (I miss Kimberly most of all.) My bank account sincerely thanks Aaron Spelling for not releasing Melrose Place on DVD.

An affinity for overusing thermoses. I have yet to spice up my insulated hot tea with peach schnapps, but that's the direction things are headed.

I would've never noticed this trend if Sherry hadn't made a sarcastic comment regarding By-Tor and the Snow Dog. How dare she crack on classic Rush? Wait a minute… Why am I listening to Rush, anyway? I haven't Rush-ed out since… since… college. Yeah, I went through a Rush phase and a sizeable Black Sabbath phase, which would explain why I've been listening to Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath over and over again. Joan Osborne's Relish, Pearl Jam's Vitalogy, Dylan's Desire, and Beck's Odelay are all stacked upon the home stereo. College music… don't hold it against me.

I think the studying is getting to me.
