not awesomely bad (a day late and a dollar short)
VH1's 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever list is so played out. How come I keep seeing this program? The first five times I saw it I laughed and shouted, "Right on!" at every song. But after seeing it --like-- a gazillion times, I'm starting to see past the witty and sarcastic commentary… I'm starting to question the inclusion of certain songs. I think VH1 (and Blender Magazine) did a great job overall but I think they missed the mark with a couple songs.

For the record, I'm removing the following songs from the 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever list:
  • #36 "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes: I like this song, god damn it. I put this on my personal TOP 100 list. Claiming this song sucks because of "yodeling" is lame. I love singing along with that "yodeling". YeaaahaaAAAAAhhaaAAaaa!
  • #25 "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley: This is standard 1980's pop. How is this different from any Billy Ocean song? As the VH1 comedians point out, Rick is a skinny white kid with the smooth voice of a black crooner. Personally, I'd sell my left kidney to have that kind of voice.

I'd like to replace those songs with:
  • "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins: My daddy used to say, "Son, 'hate' is a strong word." Okay, maybe he never really said that, but he should've. Regardless, I hate this song. It's so slow and so repetitive and so boring and so annoyingly unremarkable and so grating. Or is it me?
  • "Come Original" by 311: If this song would've worked it would've been sweet. Unfortunately, the reggae vocals, the nuevo-metal guitar, and the funk-flavored bass, collide in a catastrophic three-way disaster. Once again, maybe it's just me.

Thank god for lists… they give me something to talk about when I have nothing to say.
