shenright 2.0: Placenta Tea PartyI can't remember where or when I first heard of placenta tea, but I've been fascinated by this concept ever since. I even tried to steal my sister's placenta after the birth of Ava, but I was thwarted. Human consumption of the placenta isn't necessarily common, but it's common enough to have its very own term: placentophagy. This is as close to cannibalism as most of us will get without actually munching on somebody's flesh. The way I figure it, you take a piece of placenta toss it in a tea strainer or teapot and then pour boiling water over it. Let the placenta steep for 2 to 5 minutes and serve on a tray with scones, lemon wedges, cream, sugar, and honey.Wipe those disgusted looks of all'y'all's faces. That typical close-minded reaction is the driving force behind shenright 2.0. The world would be more shenright if people would purge their preconceived and preprogrammed prejudices pertaining to practices that their culture deems inappropriate. Besides, I'm not asking for you to run out and brew up some placenta tea tomorrow. No. I'm sure we could all procure anonymous placentas and drink away, but that's not what placenta tea is about. What if you end up with some afterbirth that a crackwhore sold to pay for her next fix? What if you consume a Hep-C infected birth byproduct? Not worth it. Approach your friends and relatives, people that you feel a unique bond with, and make a pact that after any one of you gives birth you will toast the occasion with a steaming cup of placenta tea. |
