So what's my reaction when my dad hands me two tickets to yesterday's Bronco game?
You are the best dad ever. Oh man, this is gonna be so fun. I wonder who I should invite. Who is worthy of joining me for a Bronco game? Probably Sherry.
And then Dad tells me that the tickets are for my sister and her husband.
Oh, I see how it is. I see who you love more, Dad.
I call my sis and tell her I have, courtesy of Dad, two Bronco tickets for her and Dave. She turns them down.
How do you turn down free football tickets? What madness is this? Who are you and what did you do with my sister?
With a sparkle of hope I phone Dad to see what he wants me to do with the tickets. He tells me to go and invite Dave, and if Dave turns me down invite my brother, and if he declines I'm free to do whatever.
C'mon, man. What is this? Just let me do what I want with the damn tickets… although asking Dave isn't that bad of an idea. I've never really had a one-on-one bonding experience with my brother-in-law and I do like the guy. And, I owe my brother, Ben, a game; he invited me to one last year.
I ask Dave and he says no. I ask Ben and he says no.
What the hell is going on around here? Die hard Bronco fans just don't pass up free tickets.
In the end, things came full circle. I got the tickets and I got to invite whoever the hell I wanted… that being Sherry. I didn't realize that this was Sherry's first NFL game ever until we were standing in line and I asked.
'Twas fun. I even successfully smuggled a flask of vodka into the game, which isn't a difficult feat. Still, the security check was the most exhilarating moment of the afternoon, given the overall crappiness of the game itself. The home team won, but they played like dogs against the 2-and-10 Miami Dolphins.
