shenryright 34: sunrise

At 6:15 this morning, as shenry did walk from the bus stop to work, a wondrous thing did happen... the Sun arose from its nightly slumber. At first, the Sun did hide around the gentle bend of the horizon, but its presence was duly apparent via the nose-biting cold glow of presunrise. Though no Sun could be seen, the world was alit by an ocean of diffused, defracted, deflected, and delinquent quanta.

Still as stone did shenry stand in the silence of groggy city sidewalks. Numb ears and freeze-dried knuckles were forgotten in the alert anticipation what was to come. The Sun's plasmatic eye did peek its corona from below the horizon, to survey the Western Hemisphere of her subordinate satellite, the Earth. Like a jar of spilt honey did the yellow radiance of liquid fire spread across the greens of distant treetops. The trees did appear as if they were engulfed in a godly fire that raged without burning, without singing, and without spewing tainted plumes of ashen smoke. As the Earth did rotate, the Sun did appear to rise, and the flat pool of tree flame did begin to bulge as if it were poised to drip upward toward the low lying clouds.

With eyes fixed forward along the converging lines of his abandoned side street, shenry did marvel as the illusion of liquid fire gave way to the true spherical form of the Sun. And, just as the visual trickery of distance made the side street narrower and narrower, so did the magic of perspective reduce the rising Sun from a 2X101027 ton nuclear fusion reactor to a sweet and juicy 3-ounce tangerine still half hidden behind the trees. And thus evolved the sunrise, from half Sun to 3/4 Sun to full Sun touching the clouds and infusing them with smoldering oranges and radiant pinks.

Shenry did stare directly at the Sun as it slowly pulled apart from the horizon to float disconnected and unsupported by the Earth. In awe did shenry shake his head, for this marvel of nature was ended. From no Sun to full Sun, the entire script took ten minutes. Had shenry's bus arrived 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later, he would have been cheated out of today's sunrise. There is a two to three day window every winter when shenry gets to watch the sunrise, and there is a symmetrical two to three day window every summer when shenry gets to watch the sunrise. These are the days when the #40 bus and the celestial Sun are on the same arrival schedule.

This weekend catch the daily splendor that is sunrise, for to do so is shenright.

In a way, this is two shenrights for the price of one, for Shenry is finding great amusement in suggesting that people get up at 6AM on the weekend. Sunrises are shenright, and so too is reveling in the idea of absurd shenrights.
