strike a poseThank god this was a three-day weekend; too much shit transpired for two- days.Friday kicked off the holiday weekend with an apartment warming party for neko. I love her… in a totally platonic way. Her and I have over a decade of history together. You'd think in that amount of time our relationship would've hit a romantic moment or two, but no. I'm tempted to pause here to rave about neko and wallow in a slow-motion maelstrom of reminiscence. Alas, that is a blog entry that should be self-contained. Anyway, we (Sherry, Lori, and I) kicked it with neko, bo (her hubby), and an intimate assortment of guests until 10-ish, which was too frickin' late because Sherry and Lori had a photo-shoot the next day. A photo-shoot, eh? Yeah, but don't ask me how such a thing came about. As Tiff so wisely pointed out on Sunday: when a guy tells you he's an artist and he wants you to model for him, you automatically decline because 99% of the time he wants to get you "nude". Sherry, however, dug the idea and agreed to take Lori out to the lovely ski town of Aspen early Saturday. She had planned on taking the four-hour drive with her friend Rasheedah, because they were due for some girl-girl bonding and --you know-- it’s always good to have backup in case anything creepy starts to go down. Given that two totally capable badass chicks were going up to Aspen together, I was fairly comfortable with the situation. Looking forward to an entire day to myself, Saturday was to be the Day of Shenry. I had it all planned out: me, underwear, couch, three ferrets, Taco Bell grande combo (that's an assortment of ten soft tacos, crunchy tacos, and bean burritos), Rocky III, IV, and V. Unfortunately, the Day of Shenry was not be, as Rasheedah had to bow out of the micro-roadtrip. No Taco Bell and no Rocky for me. So, off to Aspen. How long can a photo shoot take, anyway? Two-hours tops, right? Put on a couple outfits and snap a dozen pictures, right? Not with this artist-dude, Joel. If I'm remembering correctly, he took thirteen pictures and his torturously slow and methodical process kept us holed up in Aspen until 11:00PM. I don't want to come off like I'm bashing the guy. If his photos are anywhere near as cool as I think they're going to turn out, then the trip was well worth it. Joel offered us a place to sleep and we agreed. To get back to Denver we'd have to drive over Vail Pass and through the Eisenhower Tunnel at night, which we decided was a bit more dangerous then staying the night at a stranger's house. Sunday, we woke up (alive and unmolested) in Aspen at 6AM so we could keep our 11AM engagement with Tiff at Stella's Coffee House. As we topped Vail Pass we encountered whiteout blizzard conditions and as we hit the Eisenhower Tunnel the highway was a sheet of ice. Thank god we didn't attempt the return journey in the frigid blackness of night. We made it back to Denver in time to shower and meet Tiff for coffee. From there we zipped by Alex's to watch Mars Attacks, and from Alex's we went to my mom's for a Memorial Day hamburger with apple pie ala mode. Too much, I tell you. Thankfully, I had all day Monday to do whatever the hell I wanted. I read the paper some. I cleaned some. I kick the hacky some. I watched WB Superstar USA some. I even caught fifteen minutes of Rocky IV on the local Spanish channel, which was more entertaining than watching all 2-hours of Rocky IV in English. 'Twas a big weekend. And the best part of it… I can now tell people that my woman is a model. |
